Well, tonight is the big game that everyone's waited on. Jackson Prep is playing Pearl. Obviously because of all the press, this is a big deal to a lot people. I'm sure that everyone has different reasons. I went a public school--West Jones (in SoSo, MS, I might add since Jake Mangum thinks it's so funny and calls me "Miss SoSo!) and would not change it if I could. Mark on the other hand, was a private school kid. He went to McCluer, which is now know as Hillcrest Academy. I think I turned out ok. I understand that my education might not have been the same as his, but I think I left there with things that he didn't get going to a private school. I graduated with 230 something and I think his was under 30. I know for a fact, that my WJ Class of 1984 and the Class of 1983 (which I was an adopted member and even go to their reunion as well as mine own) has a bond of friendship like you wouldn't believe. Things were just different. Mark and I went to his 20 yr reunion several years ago and stayed less than an hour. I do get frustrated because he just can't understand the whole "WJ bond thing". I mean, we don't just hear about someone dying and never think about it again. We all drop everything and go to lend support. Sure, we all went through the early years building our own lives and doing our own thing...but as we age, I think we all are drawn back to our roots in a way. Anyway, I could go on and on about that.
Since I have my kids in private school, tonight's game does have a meaning to me. I have to hear all the time, "why don't you have Zachary in a 'real sports program' at a public school" or I have to hear comments referring to all of our students as "rich kids". That is so far from the truth! Yes, there are many wealthy families at JP....but there are also many families who are making great sacrifices to provide their children with the best education possible. Let me rephrase that....there are many families who are doing what they feel is best by giving their children every opportunity possible to be prepared for college. I can say that Zachary is learning things that will blow your mind! He is so far ahead of where I was in the 10th grade. The literature they are studying in 10th grade is what we did as seniors.
As far as sports go....I feel that JP's football program is incredible! Zachary thinks he's playing in the NFL! He loves Coach Black and the entire coaching staff. I hope through all of this, the sports programs at JP will get the respect they deserve-no matter the outcome of tonight's game.
The pictures are from the pep rally last week when JP played Newton County.
