We've hit the ground running

Since school started a month ago, we've not stopped around here. Football season is off to a great start, but it keeps us all busy. I decided this year that I was going to do everything in my power to make it a special year for Zachary and his class. Football season is such a big part of the high school experience, so I'm constantly brainstorming to come up with something we can do. I love each week seeing what the students show up dressed as at the games. They are so great at supporting the team and I love watching them have fun in the stands!  We have the JA game in a few weeks, so that's always a fun and spirit-filled week!

Last night we lost to Pearl in double overtime.  It was a great game, but a heartbreaker.  This has been a tough week with several injuries and the flu making it's rounds, but those are things that can't be helped.  The Pearl fans acted as if they had just won a state championship, so that was kinda funny to me.  Before Prep started including public schools on the schedule, there was constant talk that "those private school boys can't compete with public school athletes".  Well, I think Jackson Prep finally proved the critics wrong.  Of course, there will always be those who will continue to make excuses..... but it's because they have no idea what they are talking about.  They say that private schools recruit players... our boys have been playing together since their days at First Pres.  There are a few who came to Prep in junior high, but it's because their parents put them there... not because they were "recruited" by our coaches!  I know recruiting does go on in private schools.... cough, cough.... like basketball at another private school.... cough, cough.... M... R.... oh, I really don't need to say which one! ;)

I loved the football ribbons we had every week when I was in high school, so I asked the other moms what they thought about ordering some for a few games. It was funny because the kids had never seen them before. They didn't know what to do with it! I remember when I was in 8th grade being so excited about getting to school early to buy a spirit ribbon! We've talked about bringing back the football mums for homecoming! That will really blow the kid's minds!

It's become a tradition over the past few years to have life size stand ups of the senior players at the special pep rallies. I've got those ordered, so those will make their appearance in the next few weeks. I've shopped all over the internet and in the metro area for the best prices, so I've been educated on this things and can hook you up if you ever need one! You send them a picture and they put it on cardboard and cut out around it to make it look real. I guess when Zachary goes off to college, I can stick it in his room and pretend he's there! ;)

Leigh Ashley is having a great year also. She's enjoying being a "senior" (6th grade) at First Pres. She is enjoying cheerleading and dance started this week. Next week will be her first full week of juggling cheerleading, gym and three dance classes. She's growing up so fast and I just want to stop the hands of time to keep her little! She is switching classes this year, so she really thinks she's big! She is so excited about going to Prep next year. I guess that's the advantage of having my children six years apart... I'll get to experience the girl stuff at Prep for the next six years.

So, another week is coming to a close and we will start over on Monday.  Even on the busiest, craziest days...I still stop to think of how blessed I am to have children who are healthy enough to keep me busy and crazy!  Life is good!
