Homecoming has come and gone..... Time is passing so quickly and it's like I want to yell "Stop!". It's like I blinked and Zachary grew up! I tell friends with little ones to enjoy the days of picking up toys around the house, going outside to watch them ride their battery operated jeep and making WalMart runs for the toy that you bribed them with because it will soon be over. When they are small, we all seem to be looking forward to "that next stage" in life. How many times have we all said "Well, we they get in school I'll have more time to go to the gym"? Well, that one stage leads to yet another and soon they'll be driving. "Terrible Twos" are a breeze compared to the teenage years! At two, they may be throwing a fit over not getting a sucker in the check out line at Kroger but at least you know exactly where they are and who their friends are! Since Zachary started driving, I've developed so many wrinkles that it appears that a roadmap has been plastered on my face! I don't think I could afford enough Botox to smooth all of these out!
Zachary had a great time Friday night. I was furious when we got over to the Frascogna's to take pictures and I noticed that he didn't shave! Only my son would skip shaving! He went with his friend Aren, so I guess he wasn't trying to look his best since it wasn't "a date". My question is what about his mother..... couldn't he shave to look good for his mother's pictures???? I did make it clear Saturday morning that I didn't spend all of that money on a new sports coat, ordering size 15 dress shoes and the "party bus" for him to look scruffy!!! Gotta love him though..... he just smiled and he knew that's all it would take to smooth things over with momma. One thing about Zachary is what you see is what you get! He's not one of these kids who turn on the charm just to try to impress. We call those "Eddie Haskell" kids at our house. You know the kids who are so sweet and charming to the parents, but are really the ones who you have to watch out for. Don't get me wrong, I do want Zachary to be nice and polite but I also want him to be that way all the time....not just when he needs to be. One of his dad's favorite quotes is "A true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do absolutely no good" by Samuel Johnson. Chip explained it best in a sermon one Sunday. He said that you can tell a lot about a person by seeing how he treats someone who can't do anything for them. People are quick to treat someone better if they think they are on the top of the social ladder or if they think they can help them in anyway. I hope Mark and I have taught Zachary to treat everyone with respect no matter who they are and not to pick and choose when to turn on the charm. Zachary may not be a face that everyone sees at all of the dances or social events, but it's because he's more interested in being in Carthage hunting or fishing. I'll take that any day because I know his heart and he's a good kid. I'm the first to admit that he makes mistakes.... most kids do. What's funny is that since Mark and I aren't in the social loop, parents are quick to talk about his mistakes more freely since they don't know us. Like I said, it is funny because it all goes back to that quote.
Zachary and I are really close and we talk a lot. He knows that he can tell me something and I won't go and share it with everyone. Have I had to bite my tongue when I hear that someone made a comment about something they heard Zachary did? Absolutely, but I'm not getting into that mess because the one who talks the most about what other kids are doing is usually the one who is blind to what their own is doing. Remember the "Eddie Haskell" thing.... it goes for being that way at home too! You know the type.... they are quick to tell what everyone else is doing, but leaves out one very important detail--what they did!!!! I've witnessed that for years over and over again.
Anyway, enjoy looking at the slide show. They are great kids..... and yes, I've heard through the grapevine that it was said that this was "wildest group". Oh, my my my..... WHATEVER! I will say this...... included in this group were some of my absolute favorite boys at Prep and they had some of the most beautiful girls at Prep on their arm!!!!
