My little boy played in his first high school football game last Friday night. They played Washington Academy in Greenville and won 48-0. Mark and I rode the "parent bus" that they charter to the away games. Kids aren't allowed, so we were able to ride since Leigh Ashley spent the night with her friend, Martha Rayner. It was a lot of fun. I just ate entirely too much! Everyone brings food and passes it around. I'm not talking about bags of snack mix--I mean gourmet pizza, chicken salad sandwiches, homemade pimento-cheese, corn dip, Cane's chicken strips, and the best chess squares I've ever put in my mouth!!! We all just visited until we got to Yazoo City and the food was pulled out and they gave away door prizes.
We we arrived in Greenville, it seemed even hotter than it was in Jackson. I had hoped it would get cooler the later it got, but it didn't. I love to take pictures during the games. I got my zoom lens last year before football season, but I'm still in the learning process of sports photography. I think one reason I enjoy it so much is because I love the game of football! I love being down there taking pictures so close that I can hear the grunts and the sound of the shoulder pads hitting together. I did go up into the stands during the 3rd quarter, but told them that I had to get back down there because I like hearing those sounds. One mom told me that I was crazy!
Zachary is on the extra point team, so he knows he gets to play each time we score! But, he got to play a lot more on offense Friday night as well. I really think a lot of Coach Black. I think he's a wonderful mentor for these guys. I was so touched to see them stop and pray after the game. The most precious moment of the night was when they were done and it was time to leave, my son came and walked with his mom off the field. There I was looking up at this beautiful human being that I gave birth to almost 16 years ago, sharing a special moment together.
